What's New at Fort Henry
KIDS! BOOK OUR NEW 'SUMMER MUSIC HERITAGE CAMP' AT FORT HENRY
Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada is offering a new, week-long “Summer Music Heritage Camp” from Monday August 11th to Friday the 15th. This program will have music enthusiasts live life as one of the Empire’s brave soldiers stationed at Fort Henry in 1867! The Fort Henry Guard musicians will be tasked with teaching the “recruits” some of the songs which were used by the British army of 1867. The program will culminate with the group performing a live concert on Friday August 15th.
As well as the music lessons, other activities will include a guided tour of their new home, participating in Victorian Military Schoolroom sessions, writing a letter home from the Citadel of Upper Canada, a history hunt, marching drills, watching rifles and cannons fire, and even a ghost hunt!
The age group for participants is children ages 9 to 13, (by August 1, 2008) and basic musical skills are required.
The cost for the week is $200.00 + applicable taxes, which includes the issuing of their own tin whistle. Participants are asked to bring their own lunches and 2 snacks (morning/afternoon) for our program as well. An on site restaurant is available if you wish to purchase food and drink. The program runs from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm each day Monday to Friday. Important note: We'll be going outside for parts of the program, so make sure you send your child with appropriate clothing based on the weather that day.
