What's New at Fort Henry

FORT HENRY NOW OPEN 10 AM - 8 PM

Kingston’s own and Ontario’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site (along with the Rideau Canal) is NOW OPEN a host of engaging and exciting programs and events for the 2009 season.

“Fort Henry is indeed RELOADED this year with new programs and visitor experiences to engage, enrich, educate and entertain our guests from the Province and around the world”, comments, Patricia Macdonald, General Manager and CEO of St. Lawrence Parks Commission. “We know this year will be challenging with the state of the economy, so we have embarked on some new value-added strategies to stimulate travel like new Admission bundling – a one price ticket that offers guests admission and some retail product at discounted prices. Also, a new web-driven promotion that will begin June 1st called the ‘Gimmie 5” deal – where a guest can go to any one of our web sites and pay $5 for a value card worth $50 off various attractions and event experiences at Fort Henry, Upper Canada Village, Upper Canada Golf Course and parks equipment rentals. These marketing strategies are designed to heightened visitation from within our Province and value is the key word this year.”

Fort Henry has an exciting and engaging events line up including the Fort Henry Tattoo July 25th, sponsored by The Holiday Inn Kingston and OLG; the Kingston Symphony performs the 1812 Overture with a special joint performance with the Fort Henry Drums on July 17th and 18th, Reflections of the War of 1812 on August 22nd & 23rd, Big Gun Run on August 23rd and the KROCK Back to School Bash – Outdoor Concert on September 11th. The Province’s largest ‘dark tourism event’, Fort Fright – “Festival of Fear” - named Ontario’s best new event in 2008 by Festival and Events Ontario, begins on September 25th for six spooky weeks.

The Fort Henry signature event line up stands strong and steady for 2009. The World Heritage Sunset Ceremonies sponsored by The Ambassador Resort Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton and Ontario Power Generation and awarded one of Ontario’s Top 100 events by Festival and Events Ontario in 2008, launch on July 1st – Canada’s Birthday, running consecutively each Wednesday evening at 7:30 P.M. until the finale on August 26th. All signature events feature fireworks finales, sponsored by Rogers Wireless Kingston. The United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon and Commandant’s Own Drum and Bugle Corps return on August 15th & 16th for two join evening ceremonial performances wit the Fort Henry Guard, sponsored by the Radisson Hotel, Days Inn and the new Holiday Inn Express.

Jessup Food and Heritage, Fort Henry hospitality partners are offering their popular Candlelight Dining options from July 1st through August 31st featuring a la carte menu selections or a daily 3 course fixed price menu, served in the historic limestone casemates by Soldier servants. Jessup Foods also present the Bonnycastle Lunch and Tea Room, featuring traditional British lunches and traditional British tea ,served by soldier servants from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M... From 5 PM until 8 PM guests are welcomed to take a self guided tour with site map for only $5.

Located at the junction of Highways 2 and 15 (Exit 623 off Highway 401 then south on Highway 15), Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada is managed by The St. Lawrence Parks Commission, an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission operates facilities in 16 municipalities stretching from Kingston to the Quebec border, including Upper Canada Village, Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada, Crysler Park Marina, Upper Canada Golf Course, Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary and 12 campgrounds and day-use areas including the Long Sault and 1000 Islands Parkways. Fort Henry is located in Kingston and the Upper Canadian Cookhouse is adjacent to Upper Canada Golf Course in Morrisburg.
