SITE OVERVIEW
Fort Henry National Historic Site is a British fortification built in the 1830’s to defend the St. Lawrence River, the Rideau Canal and the Royal Naval Dockyards. This site was pivotal in the development of Canada as a nation. 2010 marks the inaugural year for the Rideau Canal and the Kingston Fortifications Network as a member of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) list of World Heritage Sites. Fort Henry was built as the key defensive point in securing the Rideau Canal and helped protect the trade routes of Canada allowing our nation to grow. Needless to say, this designation is a Big Deal for Fort Henry, Kingston, Ontario and Canada.

Built originally to protect Kingston and Canada, the Fort is rich with history. Fort Henry is one of 12 sites in Canada as having Cultural and Heritage significance to the development of our nation. Fort Henry along with the Rideau Canal are both important International Historic and Cultural Icons like the Great Wall of China, Stone Henge, and the Pyramids.

We at Fort Henry are planning to come together and cheer our incredible history by enjoying great wine from all over Ontario. Take in the amazing history of our Country by tasting the best wine from Ontario. Come celebrate with us: celebrate our country, celebrate our wine and celebrate good times. Only by knowing and appreciating where we came from can we celebrate our success.
