1812 SYMPHONY EVENT AT FORT HENRY FEATURES CANADIAN STARS

Liona Boyd, Dan Hill and Patricia O’Callaghan to perform alongside Kingston Symphony

KINGSTON, Ontario – Picture the Fort Henry parade square, surrounded by cavernous limestone walls, with a symphony of fifty-five artists lit only by their reading lights, and a line of crimson Fort Henry Guard standing at attention in the distance.  The sweet sounds of the Kingston Symphony drift and echo in every corner of the magnificent citadel, ensuring every seat in the house is witness to a world class performance.  On Saturday August 18 Fort Henry will host one of the region’s signature events, the Kingston Symphony’s 1812 Overture Tribute to the Bicentennial.  This year’s event will feature performances by world renowned guest artists Liona Boyd, ‘The First Lady of Guitar’, classical guitarist, singer and songwriter along with Juno and Grammy award winning singer, songwriter and producer Dan Hill and Patricia O’Callaghan, a jazz and opera singer who will perform her unique style of cabaret.. 

The Overture is a truly unique evening combining the grace and intensity of classical music with the power and precision of the military practices of the Fort Henry Guard in one breathtaking, historic venue – Fort Henry.   The show will culminate with a spectacular cannon firing display and fireworks finale to Tchaikovsky’s' 1812 Overture. 

The 1812 Overture at Fort Henry is made possible through a Celebrate Ontario Grant from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport and through the generous support of our event sponsors, Empire Life, Tourism Kingston, Via Rail Canada and Rogers Wireless Express.

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 18.  Advance ticket purchases are recommended as the event is expected to be a sell-out.  Tickets can be purchased online at www.FortHenry.com or at the Fort Henry Discovery Centre. Ticket prices are:   Adult (13-64 yrs) $20; Senior (65 yrs+) $17; Youth (6-12 yrs) $17; Children (5 yrs & under) FREE
