FORT HENRY’S AWARD-WINNING SUNSET CEREMONIES STARTS WEDNESDAY JULY 4
Fort Henry National Historic Site of Canada’s award-winning Sunset Ceremonies kick off summer this Wednesday, July 4 at 7:30 p.m. A seven time winner as one of Ontario’s Top 100 Events by Festival and Events Ontario, this hour and a half show features the interpretive talents of the Fort Henry Guard showcasing the music, drill and artillery practices of the 1860’s. The schedule has been expanded in 2012 to also include Saturday evenings a move that is anticipated will be popular with summer travelers in the region. This year the Sunset Ceremony series has been generously sponsored by Tourism Kingston, Ontario Power Generation, Kingston Accommodation Partners, VIA Rail Canada, Rogers Wireless Express, OLG 1000 Islands Casino, and Novellis.
The Fort Henry Drums begin the show with a stirring military musical performance, followed by the Drill Squad demonstrating marching drill and battle tactics, including the multiple firing of the Guard’s Snider Enfield Rifles with drill tactics and the finale features the Fort Henry Artillery Detachment, firing the big guns from the East Battery Wall and an exciting fireworks finale set to Rule Britannia. What makes the show even more amazing is that College and University students deliver the performances with military precision.
The World Heritage Sunset Ceremonies are presented each Wednesday and Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. throughout July and August. Tickets for the evening performances are available online at www.FortHenry.com or can be purchased at the admissions gate in the new Discovery Centre.
