This room was originally one of three kitchens for the officers. There were three kitchens set aside for a maximum of 11 officers. The fort had accommodation for 327 men of the other ranks but they had only two cookhouses in which to prepare their meals.

At the end of the room is the entrance to the reverse fire chambers. As the stairs are rather steep and slippery, and the tunnel beyond somewhat narrow, please exercise caution when descending into the reverse fire chambers. If you do not wish to visit the reverse fire chambers, please proceed through the door to your right into the Men's Barracks Room.
