Once inside the wooden gates, visitors enter the realm of 19th century military life, experience guided tours, scenic views, musical performances and precision military demonstrations by the Fort Henry Guard, a highly disciplined group of student recruits trained as British soldiers from 1867. Mother's Day

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Fort Henry with free admission for moms and a relaxed spring visit inside the National Historic Site. Join a guided tour or explore at your own pace. Catch select demonstrations throughout the day and glimpses of the iconic Fort Henry Guard in training. Browse on‑site shops for goods made on-site, along with a curated selection of Canadian‑made and Indigenous gifts, unique giftware, and Fort Henry souvenirs. 

Complete your visit with a Mother’s Day Brunch at the Battery Bistro.

Spring Preview Days

May 11-15
Open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Enjoy a limited‑time preview of Fort Henry’s main season at a reduced admission rate. Explore the Fort at your own pace with self‑guided tours, supported by interpreters stationed throughout the site to answer questions and share stories. Catch glimpses of the Fort Henry Guard in training across the grounds, with a rare behind‑the‑scenes look at the preparation behind this iconic tradition. 

During this early-season preparation period, programming is informal, relaxed, and ideal for guests looking to experience the Fort as it gears up for the season ahead.

Main Season Daily Schedule

You will also see people representing the civilian population of the Fort as schoolteachers and soldiers' wives.  

Guided Tours

  • English: May 16 – June 30: 50-minute tours depart every hour from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • English: July 1 -September 1st 50-minute tours depart every hour from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.* (*no tour at 1:00 p.m, due to daily Garrison Parade)
  • French: 50-minute guided tours depart daily from the Upper Fort at 10:15 a.m., 12:15 p.m, 2:15 p.m, and 3:45 p.m.

Military Training

  • Throughout the day on the Parade Square in the lower Fort.*

Artillery Firing Demonstrations 

  • Artillery firing takes place at 12:00 p.m., 1:30 p.m. (Parade Gun) and 4:45 p.m. in the Lower Fort.*

Firepower of the Empire

  • Live rifle firing in the Lower Fort: 10:30 a.m, 12:45 p.m, 2:15 p.m, 4:00 p.m.

Music of the Regiment

  • Musical demonstration in the Lower Fort: 12:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m., 3:00 p.m.

Women of the Garrison

  • Demonstration by soldiers' wives in the Lower Fort: 12:30 p.m, 2:00 p.m, 3:30 p.m.

Children’s Muster Parades

  • Children can dress up and learn to march as soldiers, earning a certificate promoting them to the rank of a Private in the British army.
  • Sessions at 11:15 a.m, 1:15 p.m, and 3:30 p.m.

Victorian Schoolroom Lessons

  • Attend a school room under the supervision of the Schoolmistress. Find out what life was like for the children and soldiers who attended school at the Fort. Don’t be late!
  • Takes place every hour on the half hour from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (*no 1:30 p.m. session from July 1 onwards).

Daily Garrison Parade

  • Starting July 1, 2026, takes place at 1:30 pm – 2:00 pm in the Lower Fort*

* Weather permitting.

Children's Activities

  • Kids Activity Booklet.
  • New hands‑on activities for kids.
  • Museum exhibits available to explore throughout the day.

Public Rifle Firing

  • Ages 12 and up from the Dry Ditch.
  • Requires a separate ticket sold in Mrs. Henry’s Treat Shop for $20.00.
  • Daily at 11:15 a.m, 12:15 p.m, 2:15 p.m, 3:15 p.m, and 4:15 p.m.

Garrison Bakery

  • Open all day for freshly baked goods and treats.
  • Historic bread baking throughout the day.

Modifications

If you are unable to make your scheduled entry time for regular day programming, your original ticket will be honoured throughout the day when presented to admissions. Please note this does not apply to special events or pre-booked group tours.

Accessibility



Support Persons/Caregivers

Companions are allowed free entry with and without an Access 2 card. Tours are available in both English and French upon request.




Service Animals

Only service dogs with valid paperwork are permitted. Support animals and other pets are not allowed.




Wheelchair Access

Wheelchairs can be requested on-site for guest use. If you will require the use of one of our wheelchairs during your visit, please advise our admissions staff upon arrival. Issued on a first come basis. ID must be left with admissions until it is returned.




Accessibility Parking

Ten (10) accessible parking spots near Fort Henry's entrance and two (2) near the Great Hall.






Accessible Site

Seating is available at various points throughout the site. Balcony level and ramparts are only accessible via stairs. iPad is available  to view where sites are not accessible (Reverse Fire Chambers).



Accessibility Shuttles

Accessibility shuttles are available during evening events like Tattoo and Sunset Ceremonies to transport guests from the entrance right to their seat in the Lower Fort.



Accessible Washrooms

All on-site washrooms are accessible in both the Advanced Battery and Lower Fort.
