Summer fun for kids in full swing in Eastern Ontario, the ultimate summer playground
School’s out for summer, and parents looking for ways to keep their kids entertained and educated need look no further than the St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) sites, offering the perfect solution to those long summer days.
At Upper Canada Village in Morrisburg, from July 1 until August 27, the Family Activity Centre provides daily interactive experiences for kids of all ages. There’s something for everyone, from carding wool and writing with quill pens to historically themed crafts and 19th-century games and dress-up. The Travelling Tiltons will be making daily visits, bringing stand-up comedy, instrumental music, melodrama and singing to the Village streets.
Admission to the Family Activity Centre and the Travelling Tiltons experiences are included in the price of entry to Upper Canada Village. Kids can also enjoy the company of live animals, adding to the excitement and learning opportunities at the Village.
Meanwhile, Fort Henry in Kingston offers a range of fun activities for kids and adults. Guests can enjoy tours, cannon firing demonstrations, musical performances, artillery drills and the historic bakery. Costumed interpreters provide an immersive experience, and kids can freely explore the Fort while everyone takes in the scenic waterfront views from the top of the ramparts, which kids delight in climbing.
Season passes are an affordable solution to keeping kids busy all summer long, right through Labour Day. There are two tiers of season passes, which quickly pay for themselves with both passes offering unlimited visits to Upper Canada Village and Fort Henry.
For those seeking outdoor adventures, season passes also include unlimited access to all six Parks of the St. Lawrence Day-Use Parks and Beaches for passholders. Admission is always free to the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary, which boasts more than 8 kilometres of self-guided hiking trails with a chance to spot nearly 150 bird species and plenty of other wildlife.
