On the eve of the total solar eclipse, get ready for an evening of discovery on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Great Hall at Fort Henry. We’re delighted to welcome the esteemed, Bob McDonald, renowned Canadian author, science journalist, and host of CBC Radio’s “Quirks & Quarks” podcast and Dr. Mark Richardson, Manager for Education and Public Outreach at the McDonald Institute at Queen’s University.

Join us for a captivating exploration of the upcoming total solar eclipse as Bob takes us on a journey through the science behind and significance of this once-in-a-lifetime experience and unravel the mysteries of this awe-inspiring phenomenon.

Following his enlightening talk, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to meet Bob during his book signing session.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Event begins at 6:00 p.m.


About Bob McDonald

Bob McDonald; renowned Canadian science journalist, host of CBC Radio’s Quirks & Quarks, contributor to CBC Television’s The National and numerous TV programs, and author of six bestselling science books. An Officer of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, McDonald has received accolades for his significant contributions to science promotion, including the Michael Smith Award. He holds 13 honorary doctorates, two honorary College degrees, and serves on the board of Friends of the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory.


About Dr. Mark Richardson

Mark Richardson; Manager for Education and Public Outreach for the McDonald Institute at Queen’s University. Mark develops and implements education and outreach programs for the Queen’s and Kingston communities and beyond. Mark runs training programs for graduate students, undergraduate students, and high school and middle school students, as well as professional development opportunities for the broader astroparticle physics community. Mark partners with this community to bring the scientists and the public together so that Canadians everywhere can know and care about the science happening across the Institute. Mark completed his PhD in Astrophysics at Arizona State University in 2014. Mark earned a BSc in Honours Astrophysics in 2009 from Saint Mary’s University in his hometown of Halifax.
